About The Typehouse

Alistair Warwick

Based in Dunblane, Scotland, The Typehouse was founded by Alistair Warwick in 2008.
The Typehouse is an off-shoot of The Art of Music, founded in 1992 in order to provide high-quality music and text typesetting.
This work soon extended to include practical and reflective skills training for musicians.

One vision – three services

Although there are now three distinct aspects to our work, the vision remains the same:

  • to provide value-led solutions for our customers
  • by producing the highest quality possible for a surprising price
  • underpinned by ethical integrity and respect for the environment

We offer great value at a manageable price. Contact us today to see how we can help you.

Towards an ethical and environmental policy Ethical Junction Member 2010

  • we aim to be ethical in all that we do
(The Art of Music is a member of Ethical Junction)
  • we endeavour to reduce, to reuse and to recycle wherever possible
  • we use "green" electricity from renewable sources
  • we are customers of the only UK high street bank with a customer-led ethical policy that prevents our money being used by companies that disrespect the environment or that sell arms to repressive regimes – indeed as a co-operative it supports enterprises that help the community
  • we drink FairTrade tea and coffee – and eat FairTrade chocolate (donations always welcome!)

Some background

The Art of Music is in its 19th year of providing high-quality music typesetting.

During this time our business has expanded from its original purpose, and now provides:

  • typesetting and design of publicity leaflets and stationery
  • typesetting academic books
  • website design and development
  • practical music-making, including choral and orchestral conducting and organ playing
  • publishing music: new music and new editions of older works (including 16th-century Scottish polyphony)
A new direction

In order to serve our customers better, the three parts of our work is now represented by three identities:

  1. The Art of Music
    music typesetting and music publications
  2. The Typehouse
web design, development and management — print design and typesetting
  3. Alistair Warwick
music in practice: choral and orchestral conducting; organ playing; workshops to help others develop their skills

Three distinct websites serve these new identities.

We offer great value at a manageable price. Contact us today to see how we can help you.

Just a thought

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do.

"So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails.
